READING
On the Road, by Jack Kerouac, part I
Please note! You don't have to do the reading from Hacker that is on the syllabus for this week. We're going to save it for next week. Instead, please focus on the "Guidelines for Close Reading" which I handed out in class (and which I'll also embed below).
However, I do encourage you to refer to the "active reading" checklist on page 58 of Hacker. Compare it to the "Guidelines for Close Reading." Each is a useful tool, though they take a slightly different approach from one another.
WRITING
Go through the "Guidelines for Close Reading" checklist and answer each of the questions as it applies to part I of On the Road. You may write this up as a list, or in a more narrative, paragraph form--as long as you address each of the items on the list.
Don't forget, homework must be typed. I accepted hand-written homework today but I will not accept it from this point forward.
